First day of School - Illustration

I’m working on storytelling in my drawings, and I heard it’s great to show off the entire process, so let me explain a little.

I’m beginning with a very (very) rough sketch in my sketchbook when I have an idea but still don’t know how to put it on paper (you can see that I mirrored the sketch in the end).

Once I have it, I import it on Procreate and start building a better sketch with different colors so I can see what overlaps and where I should be careful when doing Lineart on certain areas.

Then the rest is pretty straightforward, I trace the sketch with slightly red tinted lineart, put on some flat colors and use some textured brushes to avoid it looking too flat.

I finish off by adding shadows and lighting and additional details like a blurred background (one day I’ll be confident enough to commit drawing an actual background…), color variations sometimes, and objects for the story setting.

So here we have Harper and Caleb my OCs that are letting for the second time and at first they’re not really getting along very well, but it changes rapidly over time…

They’re students at a prestigious Academy called Margaret Hamilton and since the story takes place in a cyberpunk world, their uniforms are pretty high tech.

I should dedicate an entire post to explain what Harper’s « changeling » armband stands for, I’ll keep that in mind.
